Thumbs down Problem durring Ubuntu 8.10 installation start

Hello everybody, today I decided to change my OS on ubuntu (now I have windows XP pro) but not everything is as easy as I thot. I ordered original ubuntu cd and they sent me one by mail, I putted it in my cd-rom, restarted pc, cd booted and screen shown up with few choices: Install Ubuntu, Test Memory, Set ubuntu without installation and some other things, so I pressed Install Ubuntu button, loading screen appeared and orange line was sliding trough the line, passed couple of minutes and it froze just at very left of the slide track it froze for few minutes and 2 ugly lines appeared one was green (totally non-graphical) it looked like some kind of lag, like cut on screen and right next up to it was blue line, it looked like it was made from some words but I couldnt read them because they were unreadable, it stuck and there was nothing I could do except restart, I tried to install trought windows on different partition, it installs and when I log into to it loading screen appears and it stops at the same place with same effect. IF ANYBODY KNOWS HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM PLEASE RESPOND

i guess this looks like a IRQ or ACPI issue
just issue these extra startup commands in the boot loader

acpi=off pci=routerirq nofirewire nopcmcia vga=normal

and if things work, then, based on your need, you can enable firewire/pcmcia one by one to check if it hangs the system.
