Problem compiling glibc v2.3.1
i'm trying to install glibc 2.3.1 onto my redhat 7.3 system and keep getting the following error :-
*** On GNU/Linux systems the GNU C Library should not be installed into
*** /usr/local since this might make your system totally unusable.
*** We strongly advise to use a different prefix. For details read the FAQ.
*** If you really mean to do this, run configure again using the extra
*** parameter `--disable-sanity-checks'.

i install it using the command "./configure --enable-add-ons"

i have upgraded gcc & binutils to the latest version

so what's the question?

it says that you sould use a different prefix, so go ahead and provide one e.g --prefix=/usr/

i tried a couple of --prefix dirs /,/usr etc and all it did was ..
configuring in linuxthreads
running /bin/sh ./configure --enable-add-ons --prefix=/usr --cache-file=.././config.cache --srcdir=.
and then just returned back to the shell prompt
