So did you look at /var/log/genkernel.log ?

I am not sure if this would be helpful, but it seemed kind of relevent

yes, this is the error that was in the log: ERROR: Failed to compile the "bzImage" target...

in that post he seemed to solve the problem by trying different kenel sources. You could always try a vanilla kernel from kernel.org

SciYro 08-15-2004 04:15 PM

perhaps don't use genkernel at all? (would take longer, but at least it would give meaningful errors if any)

I agree with SciYro. Although I use gentoo I always roll my own kernels manually. You can emerge the sources, then build them manually. Check this link for the different kernels:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-kernel.xml

Though you probably just want to use vanilla-sources or perhaps gentoo-sources.
