Unhappy Problem booting from kernel-2.6.7 in Mandrake 9.2

I have newly installed my new kernel-2.6.7 on Mandrake 9.2 with it's default 2.4.22-10mdk. I did every thing fine and got able to boot from new kernel. But a fetal error has occured and that is....

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Resume Machine: EXT2-fs warning (device hda8): ext2_fill_super: mounting ext3 fs as ext2

VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) readonly.
Freeing unused Kernel memory: 248K freed
INIT: version 2.85 booting
Mounting proc filesystem modprobe: FATAL: Module proc not found.
Mount: none has wrong device number or fs type proc not supported [FAILED]
Setting default font (lat0-16): [OK]

Welcome to Mandrake Linux 9.2
Press I to enter interactive startup.
modprobe: FATAL: Module proc not found.
Mount: none has wrong device number or fs type proc not supported
Pidof[304]:mount
Returned non-zero exit status idof [304]: /proc not mounted, failed to mount

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the above output, I think it is clear that I need proc fs support in my Kernel. So I reconfigure it and enabled all options of ext2, ext3 and JFS. Made their modules and installed them but nothing happened.
Is making module and instaling them is enough or I have to remake bzImage, initrd etc. And is their any other solution of this problem.
Thank U very very much.

Since you didn't compile in proc filesystem support in your new kernel you need to remove the line in /etc/fstab that has proc in it. You can just comment out the line or remove it.

Sorry, I chose ext3 as module in kernel configuration.

Thank U very much.
Removing proc line from /etc/fstab doesn't effect. Actually I forgot to chose ext3 option staticly and I chose it as module. So I removed every thing concerned to that compilation and start a fresh compilatioon. Did every thing from begining and chose ext2, ext3 option. BUt when I boot from my new Kernel the the following error message occured in very begining when devices were detecting.
Quote:
ide-floppy driver 0.99.9.newide
And at this message the PC freezes.
So kindly help me that what option should I have to enable or Disable. Any Idea.
THANKS ALOT

It's really hard to say whats causing that problem. The best thing to do is find a Mandrake 2.6.X kernel rpm and use the config file from that rpm package. You just copy it to linux-2.6.7/.config directory and do a make oldconfig.

BTW just because ext3fs is not in your kernel is not a big problem You just run mkinitrd and put an initrd line in lilo.conf and you will still be able to boot.
