problem accessing installed Firefox 2

Hi,
I downloaded Firefox 2.0.0.3. I untarred it, but wasnt sure how to proceed with the install prcoess after this, so did an internet search and followed these directions:

bash$ su
<password>
bash# mv firefox /usr/local
bash# chown -R root:root /usr/local/firefox

bash# cd /usr/local/bin
bash# ln -s ../firefox/firefox .

The install didnt seem to work after doing this, so I followed other directions installing Firefox 2 in the opt directory, which was simply CD opt , mv mozilla there, and then untar.

The install seemed to work fine. I then redirected the desktop shortcut to point to /opt/firefox/firefox

but I am now getting an access denied error message.

Has something from the previous install made firefox root access only - i.e.
chown -R root:root /usr/local/firefox

If so, how do I undo this to allow any user access.

Thanks,
tim

What are the permissions on the firefox executable?

Also, make a link to it in /usr/bin, so that you can run it just by typing in firefox.

Obviously, the firefox executable needs to have execute permissions for all users, not just root.
