Prob's with Tarball

Im new to linux and these threads have helped me out a great deal to installing APT-Get on my SuSE 9.1 box to putting UT2004 on it and having a blast. But I have never sucessfully installed a Tarball, I always get some sort of error that doesnt let me get through the install. So here is my question. Im trying to install File System Visualizer http://fsv.sourceforge.net/ . I run ./configure and it goes throught the motions till the very end when I get this error

checking for gtk-config... no
checking for GTK - version >= 1.2.1... no
*** The gtk-config script installed by GTK could not be found
*** If GTK was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in
*** your path, or set the GTK_CONFIG environment variable to the
*** full path to gtk-config.
configure: error: Cannot find proper GTK+ version

and I really dont know what to do. This Linux thing is starting to hook me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any help would be gladly taken
Thanks

You need to install GTK - version 1.2.1 or higher.

So I went through YAST to see if I could install it, and it was already installed. Then I searched through my system and GTK showed up in a bunch of directories.

If you installed it with a package management tool then make sure that it's devel package is also installed.

When it says >1.2.x it is probably looking for GTK2 (a different library). The current version is 2.6.x (I think, maybe 2.4.x).

Thanks for the replys guys, but I have now installed the GTK Devel packages as well and still the same problems. I also have GTK2 installed from what YAST is telling me. I think I have installed all the devel packages, but I am not quite sure. Would it be bad to install all the packages related to GTK???
