Printshop for Linux
 

Greetings all...

After many months of dual booting and trying MANY flavors of Linux, I've finally settled on Libranet and deleted the partition with that other OS. That's the good news. The bad news is that my wife is not at all happy not being able to use her Printshop software anymore (makes flyers, greeting cards, banners, etc. with lots of templates and clip-art). Does anyone have a suggestion for a replacement? Commercial software is OK.

We've already tried a few options; the Gimp, OpenOffice, various "paint" packages, but none seemed to be close enough. I've also tried WINE but it didn't work at all (WINE works, PrintShop under WINE doesn't) and I've not had a chance to troubleshoot.

Anything would be helpful as the alternative is to re-install Windows - wife's orders :-(

One program to look at is Scribus. It is desktop publishing. Arranging pictures and text on a page, exporting to pdf.

I use glabels for this type of thing. While it's primarily intended for making mailing labels, it's quite usefull for basic DTP stuff. It uses TeX fonts, so the the output looks killer. It's pretty limited, but might be just what you're looking for.

Have you try crossover office or winex? No idea if you can run printshop on them .. but if those emulators can run MS Office software, most probably they can run Printshop too..
