printk(KERN_DEBUG "..) - don't seem to have it under /var/logmessages or dmsg

Hi All,

I am relatively new to linux kernel/device driver. I am using 2.6.28-15 kernel and trying to run some of the Linux Device Driver examples and added some debug logs. I have tried various options but unable to see log messages corresponding to KERN_DEBUG though I have changed loglevel like below:

echo 8 > /proc/sys/kernel/printk

I don't see he debug log messages in /var/log/messages. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Fatima

Hello,
check your syslogd configuration in /etc/syslog.conf.
There may be a rule to log only messages of higher priority or there's another file catching the low level messages.
