Printing into PDF
 

Hey guys,
is there anythin g for linux thats like the Adobe Distiller for windows that allows you to print items into pdf format?

ps2pdf
pdftex
pdflatex
and also you can just read this:

Will one of those let me...go like ...File-print and select something that will let me generate the PDF file?

OpenOffice 1.0.x will allow you to print to PDF. I'm actually using the 1.1 beta2 right now, and PDF creation is actually simplified to the point where there is a PDF button that you can click to export the file to PDF, without entering the print dialog beforehand.

and i'd be surprised if the gnome equivalents didn't also do this for you.

the only thing i'd note, i'm not sure if anyone else has this issue but i do, is that you can only use your adobe fonts. with me, if i tried to use my ttf fonts, the resulting pdf would just be blank. i guess it kinda makes sense... of course i could be missing something too.... :o

On the computers I use, if you want to convert an HTML file into pdf, open the file in Mozilla, then click on Print.

In the dialog box that comes up, there should be an option allowing you to print to file. This option lets you print your page to a PDF file.

I'm not sure if this is a default setup, or if someone set it up for me, but you might as well try it and see what happens.

all I see in print is the PS format...

Even if you only see the option to print to PostScript (PS), do so. Then open up a terminal window and type 'ps2pdf (name-of-your-file.ps)' and press ENTER. This will take the contents of your PS file and create a PDF file out of it.

On my home computer, I also only have a PostScript print to file printer, but that is for Mozilla.

I checked the KDE control centre under Peripherals-->Printers and found that there's one named 'Print to file (PDF)'. This, for some reason, is not used for Mozilla, but is for Konquerer.

So instead of opening the file in Mozilla, open it in Konquerer and click Location-->Print (CTRL+P). Then select the 'Print to file (PDF)' printer under name. There are many different settings you can adjust, but the default ones work fine.

Does anybody know how to get Mozilla to use the same 'printers' as the ones set up by/in KDE?
