Printing from Adobe Acrobat
 

I've seen related postings on this topic here but none that addressed my particular problem. I can print to my CUPS printer using lpr -PDeskJet fine in many programs, just not acrobat. When I try, the printer icon pops up on my menu bar indicating that it got a job but nothing happens. After about 5 seconds the icon disappears but nothing was printed.
Some PDF files I've received have to be opened in acrobat because they have specific fields that can be edited only within acrobat (not xpdf, ggv, or gv). To work around this I'm printing to a .ps file, then running ps2pdf, then reopening the PDF in ggv and printing to the CUPS printer; not to terribly tough but it makes my wife miss MS Windows terribly. Any suggestions?

System: RedHat Linux 9.0
Printer: HP DeskJet 5550

This statement puzzles me because I though that acrobat is read only and cannot change or create pdf files. I think that you have to pay for the version of Adobe Acrobat that creates and edits pdf files or maybe you are talking about the pay version of Adobe Acrobat.

Be that as it may. I use kghostscript for reading and printing pdf files because imho kghostscript works far better than acrobat. kghostscript does not come in its own rpm. It is packaged with several similar programs. You can find kghostscript in the kdegraphics3-postscript-3.1-62.i586.rpm in SuSE. I do not know what the equivalent Red Hat package is.

I think he's talking about PDF Forms, which you can fill in, but not create with Acrobat Reader. Speaking of which, I hope they release Adobe Reader 6 for Linux soon.

You are right. I can fill in the forms but cannot save my edits (and don't really need to in most cases). Is it possible to print from Acrobat 5.0.8 in Linux without first printing to a file?
