Printing is a bitch in linux if you don't have a postscript printer. I myself don't know a whole lot about it, I'm afraid. I've had a brief look at it and it looks rather complicated. You can try using cups. It seems to be the bomb.

I have a hp 5550 printer, and it is setup to use cups. Mandrake can print the test page, and old programs like xfig can print too. Other programs just crash when I open the print dialog. The programs give the error in my previous post.

I'm afraid I can't help you. I've never printed anything under linux. I've got a canon printer which I use under windows only. Admittedly I've never tried very hard to get it to print but all my efforts have failed.

printing shouldn't be that hard is the thing. i have done it a number of times. However, mandrake 9.1 is giving me all sorts of problems.

I just use cups and lpr... Works for me.

What printer do you have?

Marcelo Oliveir 10-15-2003 04:34 PM

I use Cups without problems, my printers are Canon LBP-2460(I use HP Laserjet 5 Series Driver); HP DeskJet 610C and Epson LX300(I use Epson 1050 driver).

It's work fine.
