Printing and lpd demon hogging cpu
Hi
I have got a machine running Ubuntu 6.06. I recently wanted to get a pdf document from this computer so I went through a procedure of adding a new printer and enabling it as a pdf and also enabling lpd printer. This did not work so I gave up, finding another way to print my document. After this the machine started to go really slowly, on looking at this machine I found the lpd demon (lpd Server demon) was eating up most of the cpu. If I killed it the machine recovered, I tried to remove the lpd package using synaptic but if I restart the machine this demon restarts and hogs the cpu. How do I stop this process other than killing it ? Is there any way round this bug without stopping the demon. Can anyone help? Adrian |
Does anyone no how to stop and start the lpd demon in ubuntu? I am knew to linux and don't know how to. Also does anyone know how to prevent this demon from hogging all the cpu, or starting it at all?
Thanks Adrian |
Can anyone please help, this problem is really slowing up my machine, and every time the computer is restarted it comes back. I also can not understand why there are 2 lpd demons!
