Printing A3 size using A4 sheets

I frequently get A3 pdf documents which I need to print full size. At home I have only an A4 printer. Does anyone know of a utility which will split up an A3 "print" onto two A4 sheets? And for that matter any other doc type?
Printer = HP DeskJet 840C Foomatic/hpijs
Distro = Mandriva 2006 Suse 10.1
Soft = CUPS,

Doesn't it work if you just force it to print it in real size? I recall I've done such a thing (it was a mistake then, though) earlier, I printed a horizontal document vertically and the result was that the first page contained part of the document and the second one rest of them, except that the papers were oriented the wrong way:

Here are some ideas

Incidentally, I saw one of these in a shop the other day and was surprised by the price:

Oops! I never noticed the date of the OP! Still, it's nice that a new member's first post is aimed at being helpful, and (possibly) useful to have the topic here if anyone is looking.
