I'm out of ideas to try after almost 3 weeks of this problem. I have windows xp computer that prints to a HP laserjet 1012 printer attached to ubuntu. It prints blank pages in all cases. I use the driver that came with the printer.
I had 'certain prints' blocked for weeks (on Kubuntu Hardy) until I simply uninstalled the printer and reinstalled it ('as much from scratch as possible') and all became normal as before (some upgrade ... ?) -- but you have probably tried that already...

yes I tried re-installing the printer drivers, printer icon and power cycling the printer as well, still doesn't work, I suspect its something to do with samba or cups
I believed it was something in the driver--cups interaction that was hooked off by some upgrade, and to be clear: I didn't just re-install the printer driver but really purged that old printer and started installation over again. Hope you'll find a solution!
