Hello, I was given a laptop with the linux distribution Mint. I can't find a printer driver for my printer (canon Pixma MP170). Can anybody help me? Is there any solution to that problem? I desperately hope that there is a better solution than using windows!
(I thought about a divided hard-disk, but I take fright of the costs and the trouble with the installation. The person who gave me this laptop has just installed the operating system for me.)
I'd be very thankful for any other suggestion!
Nina
I don't know. How can I find out? When I had a Windows Laptop, it was very easy, because the driver installed itself.
But I didn't mind using a system-config printer or CUPS if I understood how to do it.[COLOR="Silver"]
In the Mint control center, there should be an item for installing printers. There may be an issue with the Canon, though, as Canon's Linux support is spotty at best.
A web search for "canon Pixma MP170 linux" was not promising, but it turn up a couple of forum links you might want to look at.
Perhaps someone familiar with that model will see this thread. I've used only Epson and HP with Linux.
It's not a website. It's an application on your computer; it should be on the menu, but I can't say exactly where--probably under "Administration" or "Preferences" or a similar grouping. It's sort of like the Windows Control Panel for Mint.
