Preventing auto startup of various daemons

OS: Red Hat 8.0

Several daemons start up automatically while Linux boots up eg. sshd, xinetd
How do I prevent them from starting up automatically

As root, on console give the command

ntsysv

Now deselect the services you dont want to start during boot up for the run-level you are currently booted in.

OR

If you want to do this in X , then as root open a terminal window and give the command

serviceconf

You will see a list of services that you can start/stop for any run-level...To edit services for another run level, select it from the main menubar.

Regards,

amit
