This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I start up my redhat6.2 with a soft disk,
when the system start and show this message:
" welcome to redhat linux,
press 'I' to enter interactive startup
"
I press the keyborad on key "I", but nothing happen,
I cann't enter the interactive mode.
what 's wrong??? please help!
Well, I have never had any reason to do a Interactive startup, but when are you hitting the "I", I always seem to see it pass by really fast. Might want to try just tapping the "I" before it even comes up to that part.
What is your reason to do the interactive startup anyways?
As per observation interactive startup should work just by pressing 'I' at the startup.
But it is not different from using 'ntsysv' command at the command prompt. With the 'Interactive' option you can enable/disable daemons at the startup.
If you are not getting interactive mode, you can try 'ntsysv' instead.
(It is available script in RedHat releases, presuming it is available across other distributions too.)
