Question pppoe setup

i am a resident of india(mumbai). i run on cable net which uses pppoe. i downloaded tkpppoe for linux but i am not able to configure it
the cable net also runs a software for authentication which is called pacenet.exe... i tried executing this with wine but it gives errors of registry

in windows i configure the things in the following way....
i driver protocol for raspppoe which i install in my lan card properties along with tcp/ip
on the run command i give "raspppoe" which gives me a flash box showing all the list of connections on my network with pppoe and i create a dial up conneciton with that.. then i install the pacenet.exe file and start using my cable net

is there someway i can do the same on linux as i do it in windows.

ps: i use red hat linux 8.0

You can download rp-pppoe form the following URL
http://www.roaringpenguin.com/pengui...oducts/rpPppoe

If anyone is using new distro, this will be all ready there.

Then one can follow the steps as in the following URL
http://linux.about.com/od/commands/l...l5_pppoeco.htm

This is about setting up pppoe. But if the pacenet.exe file is a must to run for authencation then I think once ask your ISP, that what this file exactly does and what if one is using Linux, Ideally authentication should not be OS dependent it should be user specific(may be some other parameter like ip or MAC).
