pppd hangs

I'm using RH 7.2 and Gnome. When I go to debug my connection through dialup config it connects fine. then it says "Starting pppd" and it just hangs there. Any ideas?

I'm using an Aceex 56kbps V.90 external modem. Here's my log:

Jun 20 19:24:05 localhost pppd[2471]: Script /etc/ppp/ip-up finished (pid 2486), status = 0x0

That's it, it just hangs once ip-up is finished.
