ppp0 not found?

Hi, when i run kppp to try to connect to the internet im getting all sorts of errors.

This is kppp's output to the command line

Quote:
Opener: received SetSecret
Opener: received OpenDevice
Opener: received ExecPPPDaemon
In parent: pppd pid 22831
Couldn't find interface ppp0: No such device
Kernel supports ppp alright.
Opener: received OpenResolv
Opener: received OpenResolv
Opener: received OpenResolv
Opener: received RemoveSecret
Opener: received RemoveSecret
Despite the error it connects and gets an IP but I cant do anything, i.e ping hosts, connect to websites etc. If i type ifconfig i can see ppp0 aswell and the details appear ok. I thought it might be my dns settings but i configured them manually. I also set my default gateway but that didnt solve it.

Its really frustrating as linux is able to detect my modem (an external serial) so i assumed that would be the end of the difficulty.

If any other details are needed just tell me.

Well, i had tons of problems with kppp in debian... I just use pon/poff to connect/disconnect from the console. If you can't use it, try wvdial

Hope it helped!

I got rid of kppp in the hope that it was causing the problem and got wvdial instead but im still having the exact same problem. Wvdial seems to be connecting fine so I really dont see where the problem could be. Here is what wvdial has to say for itself

Code:
[root@localhost nnp]# wvdial
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.54.0
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: ATZ
ATZ
OK
--> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
OK
--> Modem initialized.
--> Sending: ATDT1890924042
--> Waiting for carrier.
ATDT1890924042
CONNECT 115200
--> Carrier detected. Waiting for prompt.
~[7f]}#@!}!>} }8}"}&} }*} } }#}$@#}%}&f[1a][0f]}:}'}"}(}"ss~
--> PPP negotiation detected.
--> Starting pppd at Tue Jun 14 20:49:39 2005
--> pid of pppd: 10986
--> Using interface ppp0
--> pppd: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS0
--> pppd: PAP authentication succeeded
--> local  IP address 194.165.166.6
--> remote IP address 193.95.142.230
--> primary   DNS address 194.145.128.1
--> secondary DNS address 194.125.2.206

Try 'ls -l /dev/modem' (without quotes). What is /dev/modem linked to. On my SuSE install, it is linked to /dev/ttyS0 (that's tty uppercase S zero). Dial-out is via wvdial, and I have no problems getting connected, pinging, etc.
