My experience

I've tried LinuxPPC shortly, and then switched to Yellow Dog Linux. It's been about a year ago, and things may have changed with LinuxPPC since that time, but the first impression that I got trying YDL was that it was much more "complete", smoother in both install and using. First machine I tried YDL 2.0 on was clam shell iBook. Installed ok, with minor glitches. I currently run YDL 2.1 on PowerBook G4 550MHz DVD/CD-RW. Installed fine, runs great with few exceptions: no sound, X does not support LCD correctly (or I haven't spent enough time hacking right config - doesn't work out of the box). X starts up, but with colors so messed-up that it is unusable. I just do stuff in console.

I have a triple-boot config on PB G4: OS 9.1, OS X and YDL 2.1 I followed YDL instructions and created an empty partition (9) for YDL then partition for OS9 and X. These got numbered 10 and 11, respectively. Then installed OS 9, X and finally YDL. During installation of YDL you re-slice your unix partition and reate 3 partitions in it: /boot / and swap. These got numbered 9 12 and 13 with 10 and 11 already taken. Everything worked fine. Then X notified me that there was an update available. I let it install and my YDL was gone! Turned out that OS X update renumbered partitions on my HD such that I had:
before -> after
9 -> YDL /boot -> 9
10 -> OS 9 -> 12
11 -> OS X -> 13
12 -> YDL / -> 10
13 -> YDL swap -> 11
i.e. it renumbered them accordingly to their physical order on HD. This messed up my boot loader and I could no longer boot YDL and was having trouble booting 9 and X.

I'll have to post a little HOWTO on how I fixed this to YDL's site...
