Powerpoint viewer

I did Google and found some to replace Libreoffice. Before I start trying them out, can anybody recommend a Powerpoint viewer for Linux that works well?

LibreOffice comes with a presentation viewer called, "Impress", but I haven't used it in years, so I don't know if it has "improved."
In the past mickeysoft has made a powerpoint viewer available, for free, from their website, and it ran very well in WINE and Linux.

Hi...

I can't honestly make a recommendation because I've never used them but if you're using KDE as your DE, you can try Calligra Stage. It should be available in your package manager. If not, you should be able to get it from here. You can also give Impressive a try.

Regards...

As suggested above, you can try Impress from Libreoffice:
Quote:
Impress is a truly outstanding tool for creating effective multimedia presentations. Presentation edition and creation is flexible, thanks to different editing and view modes: Normal (for general editing), Outline (for organizing and outlining your text content), Notes (for viewing and editing the notes attached to a slide), Handout (for producing paper-based material), and Slide Sorter (for a thumbnail sheet view that lets you quickly locate and order your slides).
If you want something a bit more hard-core, then try Beamer (Latex).

Thanks everybody.

WPS seems to be more lightweight than LibreOffice, so it is a step in right direction. Calligra has KDE dependencies and seems to come as bundled office suite. I'll try Impressive.

Since the subject came up, I dug some old powerpoint slideshows out of my backup and they played perfectly in LibreOffice Impress.

Right. As I mentioned in my initial post I'm trying to replace LibreOffice with something lighter. LibreOffice is an office suite with editing capabilities, supporting many different file types and formats. It is quite an overkill for someone who wants to open an occasional Powerpoint email attachment.

That you did. My mistake. IF you are already using WINE and don't mind ms software on your computer, then the previously mentioned powerpoint player might do the trick.

My experience with LibreOffice Impress for viewing PowerPoint documents is poor. I have found, particularly, that animations and transitions do not play properly.

My recommendation would be to install the PowerPoint viewer from Microsoft - they're still available (except I think these days it's not a separate program; you just install Microsoft Office and then don't register it and you get read-only capabilities).
