Power Manager / dbus Problem

Upon installation of Fedora Core 5 (fresh installation, starting with reformat of hard disk) I get this error message pop-up when I log in to the desktop:

------------------------------------------------
Power Manager

This program cannot start until you start the dbus session service.

This is usually started automatically in X or gnome startup when you start a new session.
-------------------------------------------------

Services Configuration confirms that dbus is running.

Also, any log-in relating to the GUI (e.g., user log-in, or returning from screen saver) requires about three minutes to process the userīs password. It works, but it takes a loooonng time. I think the problems are related.

Any ideas?

- Bill
