Postfix Satelitte server

My internet home provider does not allow port 25 smtp at all. I do use a Ubuntu server and would like to use Postfix to send email notifications to a gmail email account. I installed Postfix as Satelitte. There are mail servers I would like my home postfix to connect and relay email thru. Or should I try and get Postfix to connect to gmails smtp servers ? Or can I send email out on 465 or 587 ? Am I on the right path ?

Hi,
your internet provider either also gives you an email address - then you can relay by their mailserver - probably with your username/password credentials and/or port 587.
Otherwise, either get yourself an email account with another provider or a virtual server for 5$€/month and relay via that. Be careful to have the PTR record of that vserver be correctly named - otherwise lot's of email servers will reject your mail.

HTH,
Upuetz
