Postfix mail server. (Adding a user from a webpage?)
I have a server running RedHat 9 and Postfix with SquirellMail for webmail. I want to be able to have users create there accounts on a website and have that create the user on the Linux box. Is there some perl script or php script that I can call that will allow me to do that?
While I suppose this is possible you should ensure that whatever you use to make sure that you have it use something like /bin/false for logins so that you don't provide local shell acces to users.
I would instead be looking into a mail server setup that allows virtual users instead of real linux users.
As far as I've seen it's possible with postfix, although you'll need a different authentication method for your IMAP. You may want to look into something like Courier-IMAP and google for some HowTo's.
If you're so inclined you may also want to look into qmail + couirer. There is some good linkage at your local qmail.org mirror regarding virtual users. The mailbox structure is something like /virtualdomain/name with a buch of .qmail-* alaises.
That will at least give you the ability to use the virtual users. An interface to manage them is another animal, but it is possible as I've used one for admin'ing virtual users when we were on telus.net that smelled a lot like a qmail setup.

I'll agree that qmail is definately a horse of a different color, but once you get your brain wrapped around how it works it's actually quite nice to adminster.
