postfix help ??

i running red hat9 and download latest release postfix 2.0.16 source, build it and run it(it works, i could send email out), and i also remove all the old postfix file and sendmail files.
the question i have it's that when i change my hostname in my /etc/hosts
and /etc/sysconfig/network to, how could it take immediate take effect on my new that I change in /etc/hosts and d /etc/sysconfig/network file ?

i try done following
service xinetd restart
postfix reload
source /etc/hosts
source /etc/sysconfig/network

when I use command mail
but it's still show up my old domain name...

also in the /etc/postfix/ those vaiables like $myhostname, $mydomain, where those vaiable read off from ??

(reading off from /etc/hosts,/etc/sysconfig/network??)
