Postfix configuration

Hello,
i am using a postfix deamon on redhat to send email.

i have the configuration on /etc/postfix , my main.cf is empty if i remove it i have error on start/stop deamon postfix.
So i create my empty main.cf and the start/stop is Ok.

The problem is that eve i have an empty main.cf the email is successfully sent, how is possible?
Where it get configuration about relay and get the smtp server?
