postfix and sendmail

ive read that postfix if must easier and safer than sendmail
now we'r getting a new server and i may install postfix on it
till now we'v been using sendmail for our server....will postfix be able to use all the old mails that were on the old server?

What do you mean "use all the old mails"? Postfix is a SMTP server that sends and receives mail. It will be able to write to a standard mail spool and will be able to send mail on behalf of clients. Beyond that it's not clear exactly what you're asking.

i mean that till now sendmail was used and it saves the mail somewherei n some format
if i use postfix now, will i have to give everyone an empty inbox or can postfix continue to use the mails already on server
as u said if a standard mail spool has been used, switching to postfix wouldnt be a problem
