TrendMicro ScanMail problem...
Hi all,
I just home from my latest customer trip and thought I'd ask y'all what you think. The customer was running Domino 6.5.3 with TrendMicro's ScanMail on RedHat 3.0. They were experiencing crashes of the software (since Dec. 2004) caused by bugs in ScanMail, but in the latest crashes it was crashing the whole OS - I haven't seen this happen before from a user space application. Both Domino and ScanMail do not run as root so why would that affect the whole box? The customer could not ssh to it, the console was not accessible and no messages were recorded in any log that we could see. The only access method we didn't try was hooking up a serial console 'cause we ran out of time.
At any rate, Trend provided a hotfix for our woes but hasn't been able to explain how they crashed the whole OS. Any thoughts or similar experiences?
FWIW, this was not a memory leak and all FS's had lots of available disk.
J.
edit: Originally I had posted this that it was a post mortem. However, the fixes have not worked and something is still causing Redhat RHEL 3.0 to completely shutdown (no kernel panics or anything) when the TrendMicro ScanMail code crashes. I'm at a loss... any ideas would be helpful. Even if we could get RHEL to not crash then at least Domino could fault recover and restart if something happened. TrendMicro is likely on the way out but they need time to get through all the red tape of bringing in another product. I've suggested removing the TrendMicro code and passing incoming SMTP e-mail through a network appliance such as a Barracuda Networks device... that doesn't seem to fly with their security folks. I need more options.
