Possible to install linux from a partition containing an installation image?

I was wondering if you can take a live cd image and put it onto a partition on a hard drive, then boot from that partition in order to install linux. My cd drive on my laptop has died so i cannot install. I have a ide to USB adaptor I can connect to my desktop to copy the image.

Thanks

Depends on your poison- and how you want to do it, a gentoo stage 3 build doesn't need a live cd. It may be possible to just mount a live cd as a loopback device, maybe work out where the disk keeps files, but to be honest, I don't know how easy that is- I have one opened in front of me now but can't tell.

Not too sure about this one ... But this is what my Google Search returned - http://www.google.co.in/search?rls=i...e+Search&meta=

Hope this helps!
