Possible to build Gnome (garnome) without PAM?

I'm running Slackware, which doesn't ship with PAM. I don't plan on installing PAM.

Gnome (garnome) 2.24.0 fails to build because PolicyKit requires PAM, which isn't present.

Is it possible to build without PAM? I'm building Gnome as a user; is it possible to install PAM under the garnome root path (~/garnome) so that it builds properly? I don't plan on using GDM or any of the Gnome admin tools anyways, I just wanted to play around with the desktop environment for a bit and try some of the features that have been introduced since the last time I ran Gnome.

The error is as follows, PolicyKit just fails at the configure script:
Code:
 ==> Running configure in work/main.d/PolicyKit-0.9

 -- SNIP --

checking for pam_start in -lpam... no
configure: error: Could not find pam/pam-devel, please install the needed packages.

No, this command doesn't resolve the issue. If you had read the original post you would have seen that we're talking Slackware here. You'll find no apt-get or PAM devel packages in these parts.

So either change distributions or drop your plan to install Gnome. You can't have everything, you know. Test your ideas against reality, remembering that reality is in charge.

I met the same issue when I installed gnome 2.26 with garnome 2.24 and got it resolved just by that command. (ubuntu 8.04 server)
