port 25 for both incomming and outgonig mail?

does mta like qmail use port 25 for both incomming and out going email? or it it only for incomming?

Port 25 is used for sending mail... usually if your using pop email or the likes, its going to use port 110, etc.

Unless you are talking about a mail server, in which case incomming SMTP transfers (the server accepting mail) will also happen over port 25.

Yeah, I meant that by my statement as well. But since he mentioned 'incoming' mail, to me that means mail he is downloading or recieving.. ;)

oh oops.. I wasnt being clear... I was refering to email server.

See told you TK! ;)

In which case if its only a server that is used to relay mails via SMTP then just port 25 will be used for incomming/outgoing mail. If the same server allows users to collect their mail via POP/IMAP then other ports will be used when user's collect mail.

cheers
