POP3 server

Hello everybody
I have a litle LAN with a few PCs and Linux gateway (NAT). And want to filter spam and scan for viruses incoming mail from the world on this linux gateway. I found an antvirus software (clamav) and heard a lot of good thinks for spam assasin. My question is what mail server i may use. Can I do this with sendmail or I need POP3 server? Can you recommend me some?

If it is just about incoming mail, you can always consider fetchmail + procmail.

there are a million different ways to do it
you can get as complex as you like
imap / web mail whatever
this is what i use if it helps

exim mail server
procmail
spammassassin with fprot and razor
fetchmail
avmailgate ativirus (hbedv.com)
qpopper pop3 server

there is a cool and rather extensive hint about making a mail server in
beyond linux from scratch / hints
that is a fun read
