pop3 port config
I'm trying to run the ipop3d (RedHat 9) on a non-standard port, let's say 5000.
Modified /etc/xinetd.d/ipop3 to this:

service pop3
        socket_type            = stream
        bind                    =
        port                    = 5000
        wait                    = no
        user                    = root
        server                  = /usr/sbin/ipop3d
        log_on_success  += HOST DURATION
        log_on_failure  += HOST
        disable                = no

but it doesn't seem to be working,
searched to usuall sources, but probably I'm missing something trivial (again).

look for error messages in /var/log/messages when you run chkconfig ipop3 on

You may find that there is an error there about the port 5000 vs. using 110, you must edit /etc/services to reflect port 5000 is used for pop3

check it with netstat -ln
