Plugin in Evolution?

Hi friends

I am trying to install the Plugin for Evolution. I have Red Hat 9.0 Linux. I am running './configure' and getting the following error message:

checking for libgnome-2.0 >= 2.7.0 libgnomeui-2.0 >= 2.7.0 gtk+-2.0 >= 2.4.0 evolution-plugin-2.4 >= 2.3.1 ... Requested 'libgnome-2.0 >= 2.7.0' but version of libgnome is 2.2.0.1

configure: error: Library requirements (libgnome-2.0 >= 2.7.0 libgnomeui-2.0 >= 2.7.0 gtk+-2.0 >= 2.4.0 evolution-plugin-2.4 >= 2.3.1 ) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.

My PKG_CONFIG_PATH is set to /usr/lib/pkgconfig. I have Evolution 1.2.2 version. Is there any incompatibility between the versions of gnome that I already have and that the Plugin installation requires? Will I have to upgrade Evolution or gnome? Please guide me.
Regards.

You have libgnome 2.2.0.1 and it wants 2.7.0 or better for a start. Your libraries are not in a non-standard prefix, you must update gnome.

Basically, you are suffering from the anchientness of your OS. Unless there is a compelling reason to keep RH9, you should upgrade to FC4.

Hi Simon Bridge,

Thanks a lot for guiding me. Can you please tell me how to update gnome? Actually, I am new to Linux. I have less time to do, so it will be difficult to change RH9 to FC4 now. Will there be some serious problem? Please guide me through the steps for updating gnome or tell me some link if you know.

Thanks.

There will be serious problems with RH9 - you will have to update Gnome from the RH9 rpms ... there are a lot of them and many dependencies, so you will probably end up updating a large chunk of your system.

If you want to go that way, search online for libgnome2.7 redhat9 rpms (rpmfind say) and run (in terminal) rmp -Uvh <packagename>.rpm

This will fail with a list of dependencies.
Get the dependencies, install them via the same command - then try again. And again. Until it works.

It is lots easier to install FC4 - trust me on this. The main trouble will be getting the iso: beg borrow or hack ( - er - did I say "hack", I meant "pay for" that's right...) a DSL connection (I use an internet cafe me).

However, since you are new, you may be better off with something like Ubuntu - it is a small iso (1CD) and more intuitive (certainly than RH9!)

Trial by fire!

Mind you - if you really want the crash course in linux.
From a standard RH9 install, you will want to upgrade your kernel and gcc first. Then Xfree86 to Xorg <shudder>. Then gnome.

Upgrade evolution, and mozilla.

Then install the plugin.
(Which evolution plugin is this anyway?)

There may be another way...
Google for a legacy version of the plugin - there may be one as rpm in rpmfind for example... search for the plugin name and select an old one which is listed for RH9.

Upgrade from Evolution 2.2 to 2.4

Hi
I am trying to install a simple Plugin for Evolution, that I have got from www.go-evolution.org/EPlugin. Now I have installed FC4 on my machine, but now also, I am getting the same library incompatibility problem.I think I will have to upgrade from Evolution 2.2 to 2.4. Can you please tell me how can I upgrade? What are the steps? Is there any binary available for Evolution 2.4? Please guide.
Thanks,
Neelu.

in FC4:
yum -y upgrade
should do it.
You might want to consider the command:
yum install yumex
that's the GUI for yum
