Please introduce tools to build application that can get input from Microphone.

I am doing Speech Recognition system on linux, but have not had
user interface yet. I have to save wave file then use as input
manually. Then I need to do interface for it.

1) Can anyone guide me about using microphone then
send the data via microphone to my application?

2) Is it possible to build the GUI on Linux (KDE) ?
and what program I should use?
