Ok, first help us help you.
Which Linux? Which Version? 32 bits? 64 bits? Latest example: Ubuntu 11.04 64bits.
Ubuntu usually does it all automatically. I mean it offers you updates as they come out, through the update manager. All throught the graphics interface, so no real knowledge needed.
Now, I hear Adobe is not going to update flash for 64bits linux anymore... I think they just dropped development for know.

So, what do you mean by upgrade? What do you need exactly? Any specific problem to solve?

well first of all, Linpus Linux Lite is a severely gimped distribution of Linux and you aren't going to be able to do a whole lot with it unless you perform a few steps that might exceed an average novice (no disrespect) just to get at some of the features that would let you update the software or install new software

my first step would be to go to www.ubuntu.com, obtain a copy of Ubuntu 10.10 or 11.04 and make a bootable thumb drive installer and install ubuntu off the flash drive (or obtain an iso and burn it to a cd if your aspire one has a cd-rom)

once you do that you can run updates via the update manager

yes i know it doesn't directly answer your question but i've heard a lot of negative things about linpus and almost every thread here i've coma across regarding linpus the general consensus was to ditch linpus and use a full featured distribution

You can, and most people do.

Your first post was at 3:51 PM, and you posted the gem above at 4:33 PM, after posting the same question three times in different threads (ignoring the LQ posting rules). Topping it off with this thread at 4:37 PM. Exactly how quick do you get responses from Microsoft when you ask them a question???

You're confused because you (wrongly) expected Linux to be like Windows. It isn't, anymore than Mac is like Windows, or Windows is like Solaris. They're all different, so either you want to learn something new or you don't. Based on your posts and responses, you don't. So, feel free to load Windows, and enjoy yourself. No one is forcing you to use Linux.

I've never used it. Seems to be a lot of info on the web about it.
Did you google it, or search here on LQ?

Agree with frieza here.

If you're new to Linux, start off with a Linux distro with a reputation for being easy to use. Ubuntu is currently flavour of the month with a good user base & lots of help.

There's also helpful guides on getting things like Flash up & running in a matter of clicks.

It's also based on Debian, so installing new software & updates etc is very easy.

Was there a reason why you went for Linpus linux? Was it just preinstalled on your Acer Aspire?

I'd get that wiped right off if that's the case. Ubuntu will run happily on your hardware.

Sounds like you had a bad experience there with the Linux Distribution used with your system.

When using Linux for the first time, there is a learning curve & it is different to the way MS Operating Systems work.

If you don't have the time to invest in that change, then you're right to stick with what you know until another time. I will say that Ubuntu & the like would give you a very different user experience.

Having said that, if you're going to buy a new laptop & throw that Aspire One away, you couldn't FedEx it my way could you? My old Laptop's about to expire any day now!
