Please explain to me how VDR works with DVB?

I have spent the past month trying to get VDR working for my skystar2 DVB (Satellite tv card)

I have installed the drivers (CVS) and made a channels.conf file, compiled and installed the cvs version of xine. I can now watch some channels (free to air with xine).

I canīt find anywhere that explains how VDR works. It seems to me that it has no real gui and that your expected to write scripts to control it??

What I really want to be able to do is record and decode tv from prima fila (using decoding plugins)

So far I have managed to compile it but if I run it from inside x-server it runs but doesnīt give me any messages.

If I run it from outside of x I get messages like changing channel etc when I push buttons. I have tried deleting the remote.conf file and then when I start it it says learning keys but i run out of keys on the keyboard!!

I am really frustrated, maby someone can point me to somewhere/explain to me exactly how vdr works???

Thanks for your time

Check out this link. I have not tried watching TV on Linux but this site does explain how to do it.
