Playstation linux - media players

I am trying to get the ps2 to work as a media player through linux.

I have tried installing sdl and smpeg, and then installed mplayer and Enjoympeg (which eventually compiled after disabling dvd support).

When i try to play a video file in mplayer i get video device error
(i have tried options -vo sdl and -vo x11).

I then tried playing the mpeg1 video file in Enjoympeg, this time I get a black screen in playback and the following error in bash:

Xlib: extension "XVideo" missing on display ":0.0"

Does anyone have any experience of ps2 linux and could advise me where I am going wrong?

Many Thanks
