Playing mp3's

I just installed Suse Linux 10.0 with the KDE desktop and I cannot play my mp3's from my windows hard drive using the amarok media player. The sound hardware definitely works because I can hear the welcome sounds. Amarok recognizes my mp3's but when I try to play them it just quickly runs through all the files and nothing happens. I am also running the xine engine. I read somewhere that I might need to rebuild amarok after installing the xine libraries but I have no idea if this is the solution or how to do this. I am very new to linux so I need very specific instructions. Thanks.

You just dont have the codecs to play your mp3`s

Because of Legal issues, Novell cannot include some software(or codecs for this case) with their SuSE distribution. here you can see this.

it is very easy just use the YaST2 to install the rmps. A very good site to find them which i would recomend you is this one.

be sure to get the newest xine-lib and the win32 codecs from the mplayer project.(here). But I recommend you better try RPMs so YaST does not start complaining about dependencies which you do have. Good luck!
