Playing HD clips on Open Suse 11

I have recorded HD video on my new camcorder and managed to copy the files to my PC. I have played them using SMPlayer and VLC player. Both are playing in slow motion and the sound does not correspond to the movie. On VLC player there is no sound at all.

Do I have to download anything to play them or do I have to change anything in the preferences menu?

Please any tips welcome! Thank you.
