playing direct x 9 games

I read an article on cedega which said it doesn't support dirext x 9 but wine does. So this means i cant play games that use direct x 9 with cedega right?

The very best thing to do is to go into Cedega's homepage and check out if your game is supported (they have a nice database/search system in there). It's not every new game out there that needs DirectX 9.0 actually. Half-Life 2 asks for DirectX 7.x, for example (if I remember right). Some, has even OpenGL support, so DirectX is no big.

Neither Wine nor Cedega actually supports DirectX 9.x (I could be wrong though). You could, however, use native .dll's to get (or try to) DirectX 9 games running, if you have a Windows installation to copy the .dll's from of course. ^_^

Hi again linuxmandrake!

This link will help you out with wine:

http://frankscorner.org/

it has plenty of tutorials that teaches how to get Windows applications and games to run in Linux. Most of the tutorials also tells how to download native .dll's and how to use them. It's fairly straight forward: copy the .dll's to your fake_c and edit wine.cfg to tell it to use the native .dll's. Check out a few tutorials and you will get the hang of it.

I'm just using Cedega today for games and I'm very happy with it. Definitely worthy purchasing it. If the game is not supported I simply don't try to tweak so much. I love tweaking, but when it comes down to games I like to simply put the CD/DVD on the drive and start playing ^_^.

Good luck!
