How to play mp3 and mpeg files in linux is probably the most common question asked by newbies. The answer is always the same. 1. Do not use non-free formats 2. if you absolutely must, then install the codecs, but make sure you understand the issues first. These codecs are not provided with your distro for a reason. However, your distro will have particular means to install them, usually from a third-party. For this reason, it is a good idea to edit your profile to show your distro (as well as some sort of location) ... I could have provided the solution already. |
Ahh with the Xine codices this is not necessary
|
Um - you mean "Xine codecs" presumably... codices is plural for codex (a book, or block of wood). Or was that a pun?
Anyway, Xine uses the same restricted codecs that everyone else uses. http://xinehq.de/index.php/faq#PLAYBACK http://xinehq.de/index.php/hackersguide |
Just installed win32 codecs.
For Ubuntu, you can read here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=75278 The easiest solution is to just look for internet about installing mplayer with codecs. |
