play dvd video
i'm really desperate for weeks now. will my dvd-drive ever let me watch or encode a video correctly?
im using: suse 8.0 on a PIII 450 MHz with ATI Technologies Inc Rage Pro Turbo AGP 2x (Ensoniq creative soundblaster audio pci64v, audio pci128) and a Memorex DVD-MAXX 1648 AJ i tried several programs and latley i got the "best" results with the mplayer. BUT: i always get the message "your system is too slow to play this" and the pictures (though good quality) don't move continously and no suggested options helped so far..... |
You have a (comparatively) slow processor and graphics card. Try reducing the resolution you run X at.

Have you tried other -vo options in mplayer? If you type mplayer -vo help it will give you a list of options to try.
|
You may also want to make sure that you have mplayer optimized for your architecture.
Have you given Ogle a run? http://freshmeat.net/redir/ogle/16165/url_homepage/~dvd |
thank you for your help...
with lower resolution it's better i only wonder why... that shouldn't affect encoding?! |
It affects decoding. It has to resample less data per frame.

I downloaded and installed Ogle as well. No problems whatsoever, started up and played on the first try! I'll give Mplayer a shot down the road at some point. All those file formats and skins are too good not to try!

yeah, keep mplayer, 'cause ogle's strictly a dvd-player nothing more noting less
|
also try switch dma on on your dvd-drive using hdparm, that does the trick for me.
In have playing dvd's running smooth on 400mhz and a 64mb graphics card. anne |
