PKG_CHECK_MODULES fails when trying to compile iptables with libnfnetlink

./configure: line 10997: syntax error near unexpected token `libnfnetlink,'
./configure: line 10997: `PKG_CHECK_MODULES(libnfnetlink, libnfnetlink >= 1.0,'

What clould be the problem?

I can provide my configure.ac, aclocal.m4 contents if require.

Hi John,

Thanks for your response.
1> It is on linux 2.6.39.3
2> I was trying to build iptables-1.4.12.1

Anyway I solved the problem by doing below modification on configure file
# Before build, prevent timestamp error related with autotools

automake_timestamp() {
echo "**************** Auto Make Timestamp touch ******************"
filelist="Makefile.in Makefile.flat Makefile aclocal.m4 conf.in configure.in *config?h.in *config.in configure config.status config.h"
for i in $filelist
do
echo " touch \"$i\""
find . -name "$i" | xargs -i{} touch -c {}
done
echo "Done"
echo
}
