"pin as app tab" in Firefox

When you right-click one of your tabs in a Firefox window, one option is "pin as app tab." I hadn't noticed this before, and tried it to see what would happen; I see that it makes the tab much smaller and puts it in the corner. Is there any practical point to that, other than saving considerable space on the tabs bar?

How about seeing what Mozilla itself has to say about them?
