Question Pidgin will not connect to ICQ

Hi everyone,
I just finished upgrading to slackware 12.1 everything seems to be working fine, except for the Pidgin.

It connects to MSN but it won't connect to ICQ. It tries to connect but then disables it... and I can't seem to find the problem.

Does anybody has an idea of how to fix this problem? I will truly appreciate your help very much.

Thanks

I don't use ICQ with Pidgin, so let that be a disclaimer.

Are you using the version that came with Slackware 12.1 (2.4.1)? The package was recently upgraded to version 2.4.3 with this note in the changelog:

patches/packages/pidgin-2.4.3-i486-1_slack12.1.tgz:
Upgraded to pidgin-2.4.3.
This updates pidgin to work with the changed ICQ protocol.

So, I suggest you upgrade. You'll be able to find 2.4.3 on any (up to date) mirror and it'll be in the slackware-12.1/patches/packages directory.

I did notice that the pidgin that came with the slack was an older version, so I downloaded and install the latest version, 2.4.3

I tried the patch, /pidgin-2.4.3-i486-1_slack12.1.tgz:
and it fixed the error that was giving me when I tried to evocate pidgin from the shell konsole. Now it opens with no more errors, except that ICQ still will not connect.

Thank you Nylex

Glad you got it fixed and that you posted the solution. I wasn't able to offer any advice, since I don't use ICQ.
