php won't display errors

When I have a problem with a script, it only shows a blank page. Is there a way to get it like it should, and show the error and line number? I do lot of php programming and the last thing I need is to try and find an error myself in a 20,000 line script.

I edited php.ini and set the show errrors to on and there was something else having to do with errors that I edited. No luck, I even tried a reboot.

Set in php.ini
Code:
display_errors = On
error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE

Got it, I noticed there was more then one entry for display_errors = and one of them was off so I put it on and now it works! The first entry was right at the start of the file, and the second was where error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE and stuff was.
