PHP - How to update new version - Please help me


I am using RH AS 3.0, however i want to update new version PHP 5.0.4, however i have some questions before do it.

- i have to remove old version (include with RH AS by # rpm -e php). Is that necessary? Or let it stay in my system and i install new version.
- In case, i install with source (.tar.gz). How can i configure it to suite with Apache and Mysql? #configure --???
#make
#make install
(please tell me ???)
- In case, i install PHP with binary, can PHP binary can supoort Apache and Mysql?

Please help me answer my question. Thank you very much.

hmm, never done this way, but first IŽd try a
rpm -Uhv new_php.rpm
and see if it goes or if there are dependencies......

This is the error when i try to start Apache after installed PHP from binary.
php5.0.5.i386
php-ldap5.0.3.i386
php-mysql5.0.3.i386
php-pear5.0.3.i386
php-pgsql5.0.3.i386
