Question PHP compile/install question...

Hello everyone.
I have a question on PHP compile/install. At this time, I currently have PHP 4.3.0 installed. However, I would like to do a bit of reconfiguring with my PHP so I can add a few features to it.

First, I am very new to PHP, so I am learning. Please be patient.

Secondly, I want to know how I can recompile PHP with more options? At this time, I have PHP compiled with support for Apache and MySQL. What I would like to do is compile PHP so I can add support for ODBC.

I was wondering if someone can point me in the right direction on how I would go about recompiling PHP to add extra features?

I do appreciate it. I look forward to your response.
THank you.

you should just be able to download the source code for php, and then:

./configure <insert options you want to include>
make
make install

for a complete list of the configuration options you can throw at php check out http://www.php.net/manual/en/install.configure.php.

Thanks for the input. I was doing some recompiling (adding IBM's DB2 database actually.

Everything was going well. I specified my options, then typed make. So far so good.

Then, when I typed make install, I received this error:

Installing shared extensions: /usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20020429/
Installing PEAR environment: /usr/local/lib/php/
/home/downloads/php-4.3.1/sapi/cli/php: error while loading shared libraries: libdb2.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
make[1]: *** [install-pear-installer] Error 127
make: *** [install-pear] Error 2

Any ideas on what is going on how to fix it?

I appreciate any help.

The file in question: libdb2.so.1

I have found in a different directory. it was in the directory where IBM DB2 was installed:

/opt/IBM/db2/V8.1/lib

I am so close to getting this installed. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to fix this?

Thanks.
